CalDiscovery is a free, independent site for local events. Most event sites only show the big ticketed shows, because that's where the ad money is. CalDiscovery works the other way around. It goes out and finds the calendars that venues, galleries, record stores, community centers, and neighborhood spots publish themselves, then brings them together so you can see what's happening near you in one place, source included.

This project was started out of my own desire to just know what is going on without needing to dig through sites, sponsored ads in search results. I just want to open my calendar, flip on a calendar type and see what's happening. The moments on road trips where I want to fill the time with an activity, I want to open my calendar and just pick something.

It's live for many US cities and growing, with thousands of upcoming events pulled from local sources. It's built on open data from OpenStreetMap and runs on hardware I own and maintain. There are no ads, no accounts, no paywall, no data collection.

I build and run this on my own. Donations go toward the server that hosts the public site and the time it takes to add new cities, keep listings fresh, and fix things when a venue changes how it publishes.
